The freezing conditions of a prairie winter have not dissuaded one Canadian province from investing in its bridge infrastructure.
According to the Highways Minister, Saskatchewan has totted up a spend on bridges of US$57 million during this winter.
Highway construction typically slows in the region in the colder months because of frozen ground and temperatures so low that paving cannot cure properly. Saskatchewan typically experiences winter temperatures of between -7°C and -10°C although it can feel much colder.
The minister listed a dozen examples of bridge projects carried on during this past autumn and winter. These include replacements of three bridges lost to forest fires in summer 2025, two costing US$879,000, and one costing US$440,000.
