The new Storstrøm Bridge in the south of Denmark will be open for traffic this month, according to Vejdirektoratet, the Danish roads agency.
The cable-stayed bridge replaces a 1937 tiered arch bridge connecting Zealand and the island of Falster, via Masnedø. It will be the third longest bridge in Denmark (link opens in new tab). It is part of a continuous north-south transport link that connects Scandinavia with central Europe. Doka is providing the formwork for the project alongside contractor Itinera and Italian JV SBJV.
Storstrøm Bridge will open to rail traffic in 2027.
Vejdirektoratet is currently renovating Langelandsbroen Bridge, also in the south of the country, with concrete repair work by Christiansen & Essenbæk ongoing until August.
It also carried out an emergency repair to a damaged joint on the Vejlefjord Bridge last week. This involved installing temporary steel profiles, which were subsequently replaced with a longer-term solution.
